FOUNDERS DAY 2017
Celebrating 147 years of Theta
This year, eleven Thetas gathered at the home of Sandra Kay Reynolds, Alumnae Chapter President, to celebrate the 147th year of Theta Sisterhood. The program started with introductions. After the Lighting of the Candles and Founder’s Toast, Alumnae District Director, Barb Perkins, read the President’s Letter and presented about the Friendship Fund. This year we raised $200. This money will go to help Thetas in financial need due to illness or emergency. Last year, Thetas raised over $40,000 for the Friendship Fund.
Seth Houk, District Director of Guilford County Guardian Ad Litem, had planned to attend the event, but became ill. Instead he sent the wonderful letter which is printed below. It beautifully highlights the importance of our partnership with the GAL and its Volunteers. Our participation in The Human Race on behalf of Guilford County GAL is their only means of discretionary funds at the moment. Maureen Carrey, Community Service Coordinator announced the dates of this year’s walk, April 1st. The announcement of the Theta Foundation Fundraiser for CASA was also made. (Click link to Newsletter below).
Members also heard from Zeta Omicron Theta, Emily Parks, about the Lung Cancer Initiative. On November 11th we will again walk to raise money for this educational and researched based organization. The numbers of women that are affected by Lung Cancer each year are staggering. Our local Theta Chapter wants to help. More information will follow in the summer about this event.

This newsletter was emailed to all Greensboro Thetas - if you did not receive, please contact the Webmaster. Thank you.

Twin Stars News, Summer 2016 ♦ The Greensboro Alumnae Chapter Newsletter

Dear Leading Women,

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! It was a true honor and privilege to represent you at Kappa Alpha Theta’s 72nd Grand Convention. The best part was accepting the Twin Stars Award in front of 830 Thetas on Friday night. It was a testament to all of the hard work that has gone into establishing and growing our Alumnae Chapter. A special thanks goes out to Liane Davenport, Melissa Niegro, Maureen Carrey and Carrie Haner. This Chapter is alive and thriving because of their efforts and service to Theta and our community.

At this year’s Grand Convention, the Theta Foundation reported that its Give to Lead, Give to Learn campaign surpassed their initial goal and raised $5.2 million. These funds will go to permanently endow the Educational Leadership Consultant (ELC) program and give more scholarships to current Thetas through the Foundation. The Pansy Patch also raised another $200,000 for Theta scholarships.

Additionally, The Theta Foundation gave $200,000 to CASA, and pledged to raise $1 million for national CASA, ensuring that the Court Appointed Special Advocate and Guardian Ad Litem Programs are not eliminated due to government budget cuts. We have an excellent opportunity here to make a real difference in the community by standing for the child. I look forward to see how our Alumnae Chapter steps up and supports this much needed cause over the next two years.

Finally, we had the opportunity to review Theta’s Plan of Aspirations, a comprehensive guideline to achieving three major goals over the next four years. The plan has already begun with a tactical review which took place this last year. The guiding question in establishing these three goals was, “What three things must we do over the next four years to remain successful?” The three goals are as follows: 1. Optimize member experience; 2. Leverage technology to deliver member value; 3. Demonstrate to external audiences the relevance of the Theta experience. I am pleased that our Alumnae Chapter is already actively pursuing these goals within our Chapter and will continue to do so.

Little did I know when I titled our Alumnae Newsletter the Twin Star News that we would mere months later be given the Twin Star Award. Hopefully next Grand Convention, we will need to re-title the Newsletter the Golden Kite News.

Loyally,
Sandra Kay Potter Reynolds, Delta Xi, ‘86
